Beware of “The Negatrons”

You’ve seen them at your office. You run into them at the grocery store. You know them well, they are the “negatrons”.

What the heck is a negatron? Well, a negatron is an individual that walks around spewing negative energy and general negativity wherever they go. I understand that times are tough. We have record unemployment. The economy is still in decline, regardless of what the media and politicians want us to think. And in general, there is potentially alot to be negative about.

Are these the types of people that you want to surround yourself? Maybe you already are surrounded by them.

You know the drill…You talk about opportunity, and they tell you why it won’t work. Or why it is a bad idea. Or how bad the economy is. They sit around brewing over how they were wronged by the employer that let them go.

Don’t listen to the negatrons. They will pull you down. They will rob you of your dreams.

The best decision you can make right now in this economy is CHOOSE to be positive and surround yourself with people that support your goals. Now more than ever there is HUGE opportunity. The negatrons are actually helping you by quitting. By not taking action, they are actually creating huge gaps and opportunities in the marketplace and in your own company to succeed like never before.

Bottom line, take accountability for your attitude. Be conscious of how the media, TV, Internet, and the people you surround yourself are affecting your game, your outlook, and your future…

To your success,

Matt

It’s a Marathon, Not a Sprint…

As busy as I am sometimes (most of the time), I often get caught up in the sprint and lose site of the process along the way.

I realized the other day how many experiences I was missing by not enjoying the process, the details, the smaller things on the path to the destination.

Maybe it isn’t about getting to the finish line faster. Maybe it is about enjoying the process more along the way. The interactions, the experiences, the adventures. Not sure if you are guilty of this as well. Or maybe this is just a realization for me.

I think I just need to enjoy the adventure more and quit sprinting so fast to get to the next goal and achievement only to start over again without gathering and appreciating the experiences on the way.

It’s all perspective I guess…

I’m going to try and slow down and take more in along the way.

Is Thinking Extinct?

Recently, I was blessed with the opportunity to visit Costa Rica on vacation with my family. What a trip!

I was able to “disconnect” myself from the cell, computer, and media in general. While I was walking on the beach, I realized how little time in the 12+ hour work day, I actually sit and think. Not just a quick passing thought, but really dive deep.

What a sad thought that was…

With all the technology, Internet enabled devices, access to information, and media barrage we rarely spend the time to really think.

Think about our contraints, our goals, our wants, our life. Maybe its just me, but I would bet you are in the same boat.

I guess awareness is half the battle. Starting this month, I have started turning it all off and really thinking again.

Enjoy your week and use that noodle God gave you.

Life is good,

Matt

Is It The Content or the Container?

Written by MDM on February 1, 2010 - 0 Comments

I heard a great message today at my church, and it really prompted me to think about how often we are always so hung up on the Container. Meaning looks, beauty, external appearance etc..But what we really value deep down is content, substance, and deeper interaction with some “meat”…The real deal, not the surface level.

Reminded me of the old Wendy’s commercial with the little old lady saying “Where’s the Beef?”..Still cracks me up.

I think this holds true in life and business. It isn’t the appearance or the container, it is the content or the substance.

Provide good content and substance to everyone you meet, and I can pretty much guarantee you that you will be richer for it…

Have a successful week!

It’s Just A Blip…

I was listening to an audio course the other day, and one of the speakers made a statement that really gave me some great perspective.

Often, I get caught up in getting irritated, frustrated, and just plain impatient with the stupidest things. One thing this speaker said was “…get over it, it’s just a blip..”. I think it easy to get caught up on the smallest issues, while losing site of our larger goals, visions, and ambitions for life.

This is especially true with kids. I know I have a new found mindset, and it seems to be helping. Every time I start to feel myself get worked up over nothing, I say to myself…”..it’s just a blip.”

Now, this of course doesn’t work in all circumstances but I would say over 60% of the time it just isn’t worth getting riled about.

Try to make a conscious effort, and you will feel a little more relaxed. I know I have…

Give First!

It seems like every time I give of myself first good things happen. Call is Karma, good will, whatever you want but it’s true.

My thought is that it actually moves me from thinking about myself to start thinking about others first and providing THEM value. Isn’t this the key to successful relationships, business, marketing, sales, and pretty much any communcation with customers, prospects, friends, or even relatives.

The first thought in most everyone’s mind whether conscious or not is “What’s In It For Me?”…The little radar goes up when you try to sell someone something without showing the real value first.

Zig Ziglar puts it will by saying:

“If you can dream it, then you can achieve it. You will get all you
want in life if you help enough other people get what they want.”

Spot on. I’m planning on doing alot more giving in 2010…

I dare you to try it. I’ll put a 20 spot you will grow this year if you do more giving. Your relationships, your income, your health…

Cheers,

Matt

It’s Not Knowing What To Do That Matters

As Tony Robbins, says:

“It’s not knowing what to do, it’s doing what you know.”

In this day and age of  information overload, how often do you avoid getting stuff done because you have to have that next piece of information. You go searching online, then it leads to online ADD and you actually never get anything productive done.

What I am discovering is that this year I just need to do more of what I already know. Focusing 80% of my efforts on execution, and leverage just in time information gathering vs. just in case. What a difference it is already making only 10 days into the new year.

Give it a shot and try more execution doing the things you already know.

Life Is Easy The Hard Way…

I heard a saying the other day that couldn’t be more true.

“Life Is Easy The Hard Way, And Hard The Easy Way”

This couldn’t be more true for me. It seems like when I do those things that required discipline, focus, clarity, and sometimes sheer will power life does seem a bit easier. We are all going to have challenges, but I believe it is a mindset thing.

If you are like me, there are those times that you procrastinate, delay, lose focus, and you start the loop of self loathing and regret. It just seems easier when you just do the hard stuff and get it done. Same is true when you don’t exercise, watch your health, and abuse your body. It seems easy now, but the hard stuff comes later when you gain weight and start experiencing health issues from not doing the hard stuff today.

Living the hard way does make life easier…

The one question I have been asking myself lately first thing in the morning is this:

What is the one thing I need to accomplish today that will make this day feel like a success?

Simple, but has a profound impact on me driving a stake in the ground on what a successful day means for me. We can always be “busy”, but that isn’t going to fulfill you and guaranteed it will drive you crazy with all the open loops you leave behind…

Let’s live the hard way in 2010!
